I read an article on Bulbapedia about a glitch in G/S where a Spearow holding Mail is taken from your team, allowing you to battle with any glitch Eggs in your party. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mail_delivery_glitchI have a few questions about this: 1) If you have only fainted Pokemon and the Spearow in your party as it is taken, does this allow you to fight with fainted Pokemon? 2) In the same scenario, can fainted Pokemon be replaced with normal Eggs, allowing you to fight with them? 3) Can this be done in Crystal? I'm aware that it says Gold and Silver in the article, but it mentions nothing about Crystal, and could be a mistake. Of all of the Gen II games, I only own Crystal.

I'm aware that it says Gold and Silver in the article, but it mentions nothing about Crystal, and could be a mistake. Of all of the Gen II games, I only own Crystal. "Glitchchampion", who started that article originally wrote that you could use any egg, but after testing the glitch on both Japanese and English Gold/Silver it turned out that only glitch eggs (hex:FE, registered as a Pokémon) can be used, so I sent him a talk page message and he changed that. Attempting the glitch with just the ordinary Spearow and any Egg returns a "If I take that Pokémon, what will you battle with" message. Unfortunately, you also get this message if you substitute the Egg for a fainted Pokémon. I recall that there was a similar 'glitch', which sounded real involving you trying to trade a Pokémon for a fainted Pokémon or another Egg with only that and another Egg in the party, but that doesn't work on Japanese/English Gold/Silver either (you get a similar message). Not sure if anything is different on Crystal.

I see; that's disappointing. I was interested in the glitch because had it worked the way I'd imagined it did, it would have turned out to be a similar glitch to the Pomeg glitch.
Is it at all possible to obtain a glitch Egg without any external hacking device?

I'm not sure about that, once upon a time after messing with GameShark codes and having some glitch Pokémon in my party, I came across a wild ?? (can't remember which variant), so it could be entirely possible to modify the wild Pokémon in an area somehow?

Well, if you managed to trade a Pokémon with the glitch move TM53 from Gen I to Gen II, you could use the bad clone glitch (Celebi trick) to turn that move into to species (FD being the index for the Glitch Egg). Alternately you could try and get HM11 as a held item, but again you would need to do the bad clone glitch to get the item to begin with, so there isn't much point in that option.
