Hey all. I was just wondering if there was a way to use the Walk-thru-walls glitch or some other similar thing to get past the badge check and Victory Road. I want to do a "complete Pokedex + no badges + beat Elite Four" run on my cartridge for fun.
I'd try this out myself, but my understanding of the Walk-thru-walls glitch isn't so good and I'd rather not risk destroying my little Pokemon world with some glitchy Armageddon caused by my ignorance.
Anyway, I'm expecting something nice from you wacky kids and thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, although you can get all 151 Pokémon with no badges, we don't know a way of facing the Elite Four without any badges without memory corruption. If you walk into the 'void' in Red/Blue, the game usually freezes, you can usually only walk through things like gatehouses where one route and another is directly linked. If you use the no clipping glitch to walk straight above the badge-check building without walking through the door, you can walk straight from Route 22 to a glitchy Route 23 to bypass the first guard (as the no-clip effect disables when you enter a building). Unfortunately, you can't walk past the second guard because he has an unlimited range of view, provided you're on that y-coordinate and once you talk to him, it will also disable the no-clipping effect. There are methods of hacking the map coordinates, namely exploding your inventory, via ZZAZZ glitch or a saving exploit, but the known methods (bar total items changing glitch Pokémon exclusive to other languages and requiring more than one cartridge) would corrupt your save file if you beat the league that way, and aren't really worth it. Did you come here from wwwxxyy's run? If not, it is possible to get all 151 Pokémon with no badges, namely by lots of Trainer-Fly glitch: see here and here. To clarify, the basic idea is, while catching loads of Pokémon with Trainer-Fly, evolution (good idea to multiply rare candies with Old Man trick), etc. in between is to: a) Use the Pewter Gym skip glitch to bypass the first gym, Mt. Moon and west of Cerulean City. b) Get an Abra with Teleport or something, for easy Trainer-Fly. c) Walk to Vermillion City, and exploit the Trainer-Fly glitch to remove Snorlax from the overworld. d) Walk to Fuschia City, get poisoned and do half of the glitch city glitch. e) Land the last step on a ledge, then let your poison run out in the gatehouse. f) Use this to travel to new areas, access Trainers with a last Pokémon with a new special stat for Trainer-Fly, and repeat, etc. (P.S. Ditto can be used to transform into a player's Pokémon and copy the Special stat, you don't have to use up a Trainer, you can simply lose to them or change boxes) Though unfortunately, this method alone doesn't allow you to challenge the Elite Four, and just get all 151 Pokémon with 0 badges.

I've tried this myself, but to no avail. With the walk through walls glitch alone it seems impossible. No matter how I approach where the Cascade Badge check point would be, I get stopped. I've also tried to go around the check point and find Indigo Plateau's door from the side starting at Pewter City and at Viridian City. There are some non-freezing glitch areas which might contain the entrance I've been looking for, but it's difficult to map, and I haven't determined exactly how far it goes before I inevitably freeze.
Does anyone know whether or not it's even possible to do what I've tried to do, (i.e. enter Indigo Plateau from the side/a glitch area)? If there's a chance it is possible I might try counting the dimensions of the glitch area so that I could begin a more controlled search for the door.
Also, could there be some glitch way of changing one's map to allow us to enter Indigo Plateau?

BTW, in addition to doing as Torchickens suggested, you can also get the Master Ball without defeating Giovanni, thus preserving most of the trainer battles in Silph Co. (in case you feel like battling them at a later time, but you want the Master Ball sooner). Paco describes a couple of ways you can do this in this thread.

Basically, I was referring to these memory corruption glitches, but since you explode your inventory the 21st and above items control every address from D346 and onwards (D346 is end item, but its quantity D347 is how much money you have, etc.), so its basically like using a Gameshark without one, though there's only so far you can scroll. Kuriatsu has a lot of videos about the ZZAZZ method.

I did a complete Pokedex run after hearing about Trainer-Fly glitch from a friend a year or two ago (he called it the Mew Glitch and I looked up more stuff about it from there, including using Ditto), but yes, I did come here after I saw wwwxxyy erase Snorlax, as I was never able to do it myself until he came along (it never occurred to me that you need to visit the route Snorlax is in before you can make him disappear. Duh).
Now I'd like to know what the minimum requirement for badges that one needs to get to Indigo Plateau is. Common sense tells me seven, maybe six if the Earth Badge check can be skipped by walking through the wall to the right near the Victory Road exit. Wishful thinking aside, I look forward to some insight or revelation.

Nice videos! Even if I never risk performing those, I'm glad I found out about them. My main concern, if I did try what Kuriatsu has done, would be that I wouldn't be able to restore my game to a "normal" state afterward.. Like you said, Torchickens, not worth it.

Yes, the Earth can be skipped exactly like you said, mosho. I only get six badges in my speedrun. I wish I knew how to skip Erika, then every possible HM can be skipped lol.

Is there any glitch items in R/B/Y that allow you to walk through things even if it's just for one step? I may have found a way to get to the E4 in Yellow if there is one.
edit: I'd look myself, but the itemdex wasn't completely archived.

Does anyone know what happens if you black out from poison while trying to cross the 2nd badge's checkpoint? Maybe it's not possible to black out like it's not possible to black out mid-jumping over a ledge... Just a thought.

(0xA4), Ash/Gary (0xAF), John/Jack (0xB4). If I remember rightly, both R/B and Y have the walk through walls effect for Rival's, Name? and Nickname? There's also that Lg - (0x6E: Yellow only - requiring a wild battle).
