These RAM values are for Gold/Silver, (U). If we can find a definite way to replicate the trainer house glitch and corrupt the mailbox somehow (via a certain glitch dimension?), we can use these to see which RAM values were corrupted.
We can also use it to understand what's happening if we modify Mail which we normally can't (i.e. located past the highest number of Mail). If we get say 255 Mail items (although in this case 255 freezes the game if you view the mailbox). The high mail 'slots' conflict with other RAM bytes.
e.g. in Red/Blue, the 21st item quantity in the bag (which doesn't exist unless you literally explode the inventory via gia's save glitch for instance by getting 255 party Pokémon in the party and then swapping the first Pokémon with the tenth to also receive 255 items) is actually money byte 1. So if you toss the item quantity of item #21 in R/B, you literally lose money!
[WIP]
Normal box mail data ranges from A834 to AA0A (10 Mail).
A834 = how many mail items in the PC
First mail:
A835 = first character A836 = second character A837 = third character A838 = fourth character A839 = fifth character A83A = sixth character A83B = seventh character A83C = eighth character A83D = ninth character A83E = tenth character A83F = eleventh character A840 = twelfth character A841 = thirteenth character A842 = fourteenth character A843 = fifteenth character A844 = sixteenth character A845 = seventeenth character A846 = eighteenth character A847 = nineteenth character A848 = twentieth character A849 = twenty-first character A84A = twenty-second character A84B = twenty-third character A84C = twenty-fourth character A84D = twenty-fifth character A84E = twenty-sixth character A84F = twenty-seventh character A850 = twenty-eighth character A851 = twenty-ninth character A852 = thirtieth character A853 = thirty-first character A854 = thirty-second character A855 = thirty-third character A856 = author of first mail (first character) A857 = author of first mail (second character) A858 = author of first mail (third character) A859 = author of first mail (fourth character) A85A = author of first mail (fifth character) A85B = author of first mail (sixth character) A85C = author of first mail (seventh character) A85D = author of first mail (eighth character) A85E = author of first mail (ninth character) A85F = author of first mail (tenth character) A860 = author of first mail (end character) A861 = ? A862 = Pokémon shown in portrait mail A863 = type of mail (item id). 'Purple oddish mail' for invalid ids. A864 = ?
Second mail:
A865 = first character of second mail
What I find interesting about corrupted mail, if you do experience the Trainer House glitch/corrupted mail glitch, is that the game is actually grabbing strings of text from somewhere, e.g. 'G|R|E|E|N|'.

I figured this is the right place to post this, as I haven't found anyone who can help me yet. This is in my Pokemon Gold game. I somehow got a Mail glitch before I even entered Kanto! I have no idea when it happened or under what circumstances (I have never used any cheating, memory-corrupting, or hacking device), but here is the gist of it:
1. I have Mail attached to my level 20 Rattata.. 2. The Mail Glitch causes glitch mail to appear in my mailbox. 3. This glitch also causes the game to list the mailbox as full at all times...even when I delete messages. 4. Whenever I try to deposit Rattata in a box, it says, "Remove Mail." 5. When I attempt to send the Mail to the mailbox, I am told that it is full. 6. So basically I'm stuck with a level 20 Rattata forever.
It is also worthwhile to note that the mail messages will change according to the time and place in the game. One message behaves very erratically: sometimes it will display glitchy text, other times it will cause the game to restart in the Glitch Dimension! (The latter event has not happened in a long while.)
I am, however, still able to send Mail to my Pack, and sell it for $1500 per piece. However, this will not decrease the total amount of Mail messages that I have, and the game displays the mailbox as full even after I do this.
Help!

Hi Torchickens. I know a method to replicate the Trainer House Glitch and corrupt the Mailbox in Gold&Silver. - We need have a 000 in the first party position and 5 any Pokémon. - Using Move option move a Pokémon to the party. - In this moment we have 7 Pokémon in the party, whitdraw 4 or more Pokémon and then the Unowndex (or Unown in the Pokédex) is affect. - When we have 11 or more Pokémon in the party, check the Unowndex (or Unown in the Pokédex) and the game freezes or ocurred a Glitch Dimension. When we resetart, the game will return to the normality in the last save point (when we move the 7th party Pokémon). In this moment the Unowndex is not affected and we can replicate the Trainer House Glitch, corrupt the Mailbox, get decoration to our room and get a strange Mystery Gift without danger for the save file.

Hi Paco. Wow, that's great. Thank you so much for all your hard work! This is inspiring. Perhaps a certain glitch Unown may trigger a glitch dimension which could make an NPC appear who gives you a Teru-Sama that has an equivalent identifier of the GS Ball in Pokémon Crystal? Is it also possible to add a seventh Pokémon into the party with ????? (00) in Pokémon Crystal, or is only Missingning possible? I am rather naïve with Pokémon Crystal, as I have never played the game. This glitch could be helpful for people who want to obtain Celebi without using potentially risky methods which involve turning the power off while saving, assuming that it is possible to obtain a ????? (00) without turning the power off too early. Is that possible? I wonder if there is a method of avoiding the 'this Pokémon is abnormal message', but I do not understand exactly what causes it. I was considering the possibility of linking between Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal using an 'M or 3TrainerPoké (00) which has turned into an unstable hybrid of a transferable Generation I Pokémon via the Q glitch? but then I remembered about that message. Do you know which glitch Unown and subsequent glitch dimension, gave you a HM12? I'm trying to see if we can find a way how we can work it out, with reference to our archived list of Gameshark codes replay.web.archive.org/20080822103628/http://glitchcity.info/docs/gameshark/pokemongscodes.txtAs of a slightly unrelated note, I've noticed, when experimenting with Gameshark that having HM12 attached to a Pokémon in Red/Blue (a held item in Generation I is determined by a byte which is given the same value of the Pokémon's catch rate when you capture it) can have unusual effects on its portrayed stats, moves and HP in Pokémon Gold and Silver but this will always trigger the 'this Pokémon appears to be abnormal' message, if you then attempted to trade it unless I'm mistaken. Edit:I had a look what the Pokémon moves grab their data from, as this is a nice easy variable for us to change. GARY 'M 9 and Yuzihax finished the UnownDex project for English Pokémon Gold/Silver and Crystal on GCL forums before it went down. I think I still have the finished projects downloaded. Now it would be a good idea to list the glitch dimension inducing Unowns here. Edit2: I think I've found that Unown #1 is determined by the remaining PP of move #4 of Pokémon 11. This conflicts with DC24.

The * Unowns give some erratic effects sometimes and may vary on location (I only tested these in Ruins of Alph) Try exiting and reopening start menus/start menu options. Also, ones that crash will occasionally pop-up glitch dimensions, albeit rarely.
Edit: If Glitch Unowns cause glitch dimensions that cause mystery gifts, what about certain Coin Case glitch dimensions?

Currently I not know a method to get a 000 in G/S/C without use the Cloning Trick, althought I think in Gold&Silver there is no risk using use the cloning trick. I not know what causes the "Your friend´s Pokémon appears to be abnormal" message, perhaps some byte combination in the internal Pokémon structure cause that message. In Bulbapedia say "Rarely times is possible trade a ´M or Missingno to G/S/C", then probably exist a way to do it. I will try find a method to trade a ´M/Missingno or unstable hybrid to G/S/C, because if this works, there is probably a different way to get to Celebi in G/S/C. This sound like interesting. The glitch Unown #80 (Hex:50) give a HM12, to get a HM12 without gameshark is necessary go to DC3F (Default Unown shown in the Pokédex), to do this we need have 12 Pokémon in the party and the Twelfth Pokémon must know Petal Dance move in Skill 4. I made a video about it. www.megaupload.com/?d=D85S19HTTheoretically, if we wanted the 'Ilsty and ?' event, triggered by glitch Unown #28 (hex:1C) for example, we can modify entry 25 by withdrawing a twelfth Pokémon knowing the move Sand-Attack. Apparently nothing happens. it looks like certain glitch dimension Unown give you a Mystery Gift on the second floor of a Pokémon Center... Someone could check in your Gold/Silver save file if also 1E glitch Unown causes appears the lv79 Forretress, lv33 Seel, lv205 Moltres in the Trainer House?
Why in the Mail Box when you put a glitch Mail in the pack is turned into another Item?

I finished the glitch Mystery Gift list in the previous post. Also I have a request and a qufestion... Someone could check in your Gold/Silver save file if also 1E glitch Unown causes appears the lv79 Forretress, lv33 Seel, lv205 Moltres in the Trainer House? I will try this with one of the later VisualBoyAdvance versions (VBA 1.7.2 v19.3) because when I was testing Japanese version select button glitches in Red/Green the dokokashira door glitch and fossil conversion glitch worked on that but not on earlier versions. I finished the glitch Mystery Gift list in the previous post. Also I have a request and a question... Why in the Mail Box when you put a glitch Mail in the pack is turned into another Item? This depends on the Mail print, because the Mail print used depends directly on the item identifier. It is like an ordinary item pack, but you can't see the item names. For example, if we consider a glitch Mail which uses this print: We can tell that it will turn into a Surf Mail (0xB5) when we withdraw it into the item pack. However, if the item identifier is not used for any valid Mail (00: ? -FE: HM12) and not including B5-BD, which are valid Mail identifiers, it will (always?) turn out like this: For example, if we have a Bicycle (0x06) in the Mail Box, it should use the Mail print above. Theoretically, if you put any ordinary (non-Mail) item in the Mailbox by cheating, it would use that print. Unfortunately, for this reason, it doesn't look like we can tell what any invalid item will be by its Mail print alone, except that it wouldn't be withdrawn as a Mail item if it did use the 'purple Oddish print'. I found one exception however with (FF: Cancel), which looks like this, so if you withdraw it you get no item (Cancel): ^ Not a game freeze, but a blank screen which you can exit.

I have something to add: There's a ton more trainers out there. However, these trainers you encounter cannot be found by glitch Unowns. I had this one happen. First time I reached Viridian Trainer house, I fought a trainer named PKMN Trainer [Blank] and he had two pokemon: A level 0 Venonat and Level 127 Pincer. My mail also corrupted before reaching Kanto. It may have been connected to a corrupted link battle I had with my cousin once as I recieved a large portion of the bad stuff. Including pokemon with HP bars stretching offscreen. After this, my mailbox was full.
Already been mentioned but you can rescramble the trainer you face sometimes by looking at different glitch mail in your PC.
Sort of off subject but similar: I should note that I had a problem with bad eggs once in my now dead Leafgreen. Why I'm bringing this up is because the bad eggs and ??????????? behaving like bad eggs causes a huge problem with my mailbox. Looking at it would freeze the game.
