Origin of the Ruby/Sapphire 'Fat Man'

I almost forgot about this sprite (for those who don't know it is a large unused 'giant' character present within Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire) though suddenly came across this thread today acmlm.kafuka.org/archive3/thread.php?id=9032.

It turns out that it is a recreation of a sprite used for (enemy dolls?) in the 1989 NES game Mendel Palace, which was apparently Game Freak's debut title and the first game designed by Satoshi Tajiri.

I've seen a video of a hacked game using this sprite, but didn't believe it was really present in the games, except when I saw by myself while destroying messing with Bad EGGs.

EDIT: loaded my sucked game's savestate and saved the sprite. It has better colors:

Also, I don't know if this is useful (probably not), but when it appears through the Bad EGGs, the sprite varies between these three other sprites (maybe cuz the Bad EGG messed up the game):
