Apparently, there is currently one available on ebay for $99.95 via "Buy it Now"! cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pokemon-Gold-Game-Boy-Color-demo-sample-promo-prototype-/120666692583?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c184b9be7#rpdId I do not own an ebay account myself; though I'm curious as to whether any further, major unused elements of Pokémon Gold and Silver are hidden within this revision. I vaguely recall elsewhere about a Pokémon Gold prototype being sold on the Australian ebay but I didn't hear much more about that prototype. Unless it was of this sort? (Title screen used in a Nintendo Spaceworld 1998 demo). Though, this "not for re-sale" prototype doesn't look too old. It may be the sort used for in-store kiosks and looks to be an incomplete English localization?

If we check the code name on the cartridge, it matches up with normal versions, but the DIS- is added to the code. Cartridge seems to be too final to be a *notable* prototype and they wouldn't put that much work into a prototype copy. It seems to be a magazine review copy or store demo.

I bought it. Now if only I had $50 to buy a SmartBoy & supply proof as it's actually exactly the same as the retail...

I know that Sega Genesis games that were sold bundled with Sega Genesis consoles have this kind of thing on them too. Perhaps it was a copy of the game bundled in with a Gameboy Color and the person selling it mistook it for a prototype.
Then again, it could also be a magazine review cart. It's the US version of obviously if it's from the US it's not going to have anything different. In other words, it was a ripoff.
There's actually a pokemon Ruby debug beta that's been dumped though it's not allowed to be released publicly just yet. drx is holding onto it until he's able to release it publicly.

It's probably close to a final copy.

Might as well put it out that I once played a Gold or Silver in a Fred Myers store when I was just a kid... I don't know if it was a prototype or not, but I do know that it had quite a quick time between phone rings on incoming calls (don't know about hanging up due to it being ages since then). Well... I hope Glitch City Laboratories comes back (for the sake of others and learning about / studying of ancient Pokemon glitches). Keep up the good work everyone! (Hopefully no "n00bs" show up here to screw things up... *definition, which is start of first definition down to (and including) the first video/image*: www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Noob&defid=2568674)

... Did you really need to define that?

(there was an eBay buy-it-now up recently for a Donkey Kong Country 3 Not for Resale demo with a little extra information on the latter, although it appears to have been purchased or withdrawn). In addition to the Pokémon Gold Not For Re-Sale demos, there were Silver and Emerald demos as well. One of the Pokémon Emerald Not for Resale demos is currently up on eBay. Recently, a Celebi Nintendo DS distribution cart has surfaced, property of Nintendo.
Please don't suggest that other people are 'n00bs' on the forums. You're segregating the community that way; and discouraging people from staying here for long, because everyone is equally free to post on these forums. The only 'n00bs' are the people who spoil things for everyone else; nobody should be afraid to say 'stupid' things and ask 'stupid' questions, because everyone will be new to something at some point.

Just for reference...for some reason, "not for resale" copies of Sonic 1 and 2 are extremely common, almost as much so as the non-NFR copies. Weren't the NFR versions the ones that were packed in with the Genesis?
