I've read that encountering certain glitch pokemon (e.g. Missingno.) before defeating the Elite Four is one way to avoid Hall of Fame corruption. A way to restore the Hall of Fame, I've read also, is to defeat the Elite Four 20 times. What I'd like to know is, is there anything beside simply encountering and/or catching glitch pokemon that corrupts the Hall of Fame? Can moving glitch pokemon to and from Bill's PC, viewing their data, or using them to defeat the Elite Four for example, also corrupt the Hall of Fame? Also, is the Hall of Fame corruption universal among glitch pokemon or are there some that don't affect the Hall of Fame? Your time and answers are much appreciated!

Yes, if you view their status this will also corrupt the Hall of Fame. Though if you completed the Hall of Fame with a team including glitch Pokémon and didn't have any existing Hall of Fame data, it would be saved with the data it's 'supposed to', so you could have a 'normal' Hall of Fame with a few glitch Pokémon that you beat the Pokémon League with or so. If you beat the Hall of Fame over 20 times, the game will clear over the older entries (I'm not sure if it starts counting at 21, or if it resets at 1?), so you can get a healthy Hall of Fame listing again. The game apparently has a save structure independent of the main overworld save data in game. If you play Pokémon Red and Blue on Pokémon Stadium sorry, you can notice it saying that the game 'saves' after you encounter Missingno. or 'M. IIRC, if you encounter a Missingno. or 'M (after defeating the Elite Four) and turn the game off without saving, the corrupted Hall of Fame data will remain even if you don't save the game via the menu or changing boxes. I don't know if Hall of Fame corruption is universal amongst non-hybrid glitch Pokémon, but 000 variants aren't the only ones that corrupt it. h POKé (hex:C3), Pokédex #94 a Gengar hybrid also changed already corrupted Hall of Fame data.

Thanks for the answers, Torchickens. So theoretically, if an 'M (for example) gets saved in a healthy Hall of Fame and I then go and view the Hall of Fame, will the Hall of Fame become corrupted as I view 'M within it?

Thanks for the answers, Torchickens. So theoretically, if an 'M (for example) gets saved in a healthy Hall of Fame and I then go and view the Hall of Fame, will the Hall of Fame become corrupted as I view 'M within it? You're welcome. For some reason no, it will preserve itself until you actually view a glitch Pokémon's stats from a menu or in battle, but simply viewing it in the Hall of Fame listing won't do any harm (this is assuming with no Hall of Fame data you beat the game with 'M to get it safely in the Hall of Fame, and therefore a 'legit' Hall of Fame entry then immediately went to check it). However, sometimes with an actual corrupted Hall of Fame the game will corrupt it further even after just viewing the entries alone. I don't know why.

Good to know. I feel better knowing that when I finally complete my collection of glitch pokemon and begin training with the Elite Four that I'll be able to preserve my Hall of Fame.

I know for a fact that after encountering Missingno a long time ago, I could still access unbroken entries if I went through a large number of them. I also noticed that certain glitches have different effects to others - for example, h Poké will only change the very first two Pokémon entered in the hall of fame.

I wonder whether a corrupted Hall of Fame itself can have glitching effects in other parts of the game, and whether it could be exploited somehow. Interesting to consider, but probably more effort than it's worth to figure out.

Interesting to consider, but probably more effort than it's worth to figure out. I can't think of anything spectacular but: If the last glitch Pokémon had a cry which was an actual soundtrack itself (or more often just a certain 'instrument' of it), you can temporarily change the background music to that even when you exit the menu. Small glitches within the HoF display itself: Some glitch Pokémon like 3TrainerPoké grab their picture as the last Pokémon used for the previous entry. Others like 94 IIRC return a completely black screen until you press A to scroll past their page, which fills even part of the surrounding SGB border.

Those sound like cool effects, even if they aren't anything really great. I guess it might be fun to experiment.

I noticed that in Yellow while playing in game boy tower my game saves when I send out Q to battle. I had already corrupted my hall of fame so I don't know what effects it had. The same did not happen when I sent out Charizard 'M in Red.

Hi, does this affect Pokemon Stadium's hall of fame as well when you do not have Missingno in your party but only encountered it once? Because I plan to get a new transfer pak to unlock Mewtwo and try and get Mew in the Pika cup.
