Oh, I didn't realize it was already there, sorry... although I bet most people didn't know about that last part. I was going insane, trying it like 15+ times in the Spanish version to no success... also, when looking at the comments of that video, I saw someone saying it didn't work in the German version either.

It's a pain to check when Google has removed most of its cache about GCL. Don't feel sorry about it. RE - Not working in the Spanish version: That's interesting, I know that you once said before that the Old Man Trick was patched in the Spanish (and German?) versions, but this too? I wonder why. Does this and the Old Man glitch work in Japan's special edition Pocket Monsters Blue? I know that our Red and Blue's engine is based upon it, though it's confusing why the Spanish and German localizations (exclusively?) doesn't have some of our glitches (not counting invalid data like glitch Pokémon). Maybe they underwent a longer period of translation compared to some of the other languages? Maybe Yellow's game engine (ignoring language differences) is based upon these games instead of the English versions?

Yeah, it is weird that it was fixed in Spanish versions, and as for the Old Man glitch, I recall seeing a video on YouTube showing that the glitch still works in the German versions (EDIT: Ah, here it is!). However, when I posted about it not working in the Spanish versions on this Bulbapedia talk page, someone said that it didn't work in the Italian version either. That's the only source I have on that though. I have no idea if it works in Japanese Blue. More than likely it does, since it came out before any of the English versions did. I don't have the time to play most of the game though just to see if it works, so I'll leave that for someone else to figure out. Also, the glitch in Cinnabar Island where a sprite of an old man appears out of nowhere when you walk in front of Blaine's gym without a Secret Key was also fixed in the Spanish versions as well. (I'm talking about this glitch here -- sorry for the very poor quality.) And it's very possible that the developers had time to fix some of those bugs (the Old man one, the man on the roof one, and the Brock skip one) in European versions. After all, according to this, Red/Blue were released in North America on Sep. 30, 1998, while they were released in Europe on Oct. 8, 1999 -- just more than one year later (these days, they never take that long). And yes, it's quite possible that Yellow's programming was based off of Spanish/etc. versions of Red/Blue due to the same bug fixes. Also, there were some bugs that existed in Japanese versions of Pokémon games but not anywhere else (I'm not talking about Red/Green stuff like the door thing). In Japanese versions of D/P, you could surf through walls in the Elite Four. And in Japanese versions of R/S, there was some glitch with Trick/mail that I'm not very familiar with. Not to mention, in Japanese HG/SS, there was some glitch with a boulder in Slowpoke Well that didn't exist anywhere else. So, this kind of thing happens all the time, really. PS: On a completely unrelated note, the infinite Nugget glitch with the Rocket grunt in Nugget Bridge only works in Generation III. There is a misconception that it works in Generation I too, but it doesn't -- if you lose to him, you don't get to fight him again. I tried this in Blue and someone else (The Kakuza from the main GCL forum) tried it in Yellow and it didn't work.

I was just playing my (Japanese) Pokemon Yellow game, battling a wild Graveler (or maybe an Onix, I wasn't paying attention) in the Victory Road. After I beat it, I suddenly got ~800,000 yen. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Did you try killing a level 60 graveller with pay day from a level 14 meowth or something I don't think that would have any effect because Pay Day normally gives coins equal to twice the user's level in Generation I and II, unless of course there's a strange bug with Pay Day we haven't found yet.

HOWEVER, like the Old Man glitch and the Man on the Roof glitch, this glitch does not work at all in the Spanish version. Blaziken257, if we first make Walk Through Walls Glitch then Old Man trick works on Spanish version if we walk in the water of Isla Canela (Cinnabar Island), but only appears MissingNo and ´M, don´t appears +lv128 Pokémon or Trainers. Sorry my bad english, I only speak spanish.

I never think of that glitch because it is difficult to do without a GameShark code. Sorry.

OK here is something that's been baffling me... when I try to use the Mew glitch, why is it that whenever I trigger a text box (e.g. by talking to someone or reading a sign) in the town right before the route with the Pokémon that's supposed to appear, random dialogue boxes from NPCs in that route show up? For example, when I fly from a trainer in Route 8 (the route just west of Lavender Town), and then I eventually fly to Lavender Town and talk to someone there (even inside buildings as well), a random text box from an NPC in Route 8 will appear as soon as I get there, instead of the Start menu. Has anybody noticed this before? If so, why does it do this?
Although, if I talk to someone but go to a different route other than the one that triggers the wild Pokémon, this gets reset as if I didn't talk to anyone.
Also, even crazier, depending on who I talk to in Lavender Town, sometimes fights against trainers that I haven't beaten yet will occur, instead of the Pokémon that I intended to find. But after beating the trainer, the game goes haywire, with glitchy sounds/music, graphical effects, and sometimes even an instant second fight against the same trainer I just finished battling. Usually the game gets unstable (with inconsistent results too) at this point no matter what happens, so I often have to reset the game.
But does anybody know why this happens?

There are patches from Gold/Silver JP, though I can only think of an [unconfirmed] Bug Catching competition exploit which allows you to obtain any shiny Pokémon. The glitch was being tested on GCL forums' Submit a Glitch board but I don't think anyone ever finished the steps (which I can no longer remember). Would this passage from TR's Rockin' be what you were referring to? From UltimateWhiteDragon: "This is a cheat that will turn a pokemon that can evolve into a shiny pokemon. It is for Gold, Silver, and Crystal ONLY. I haven't tried it yet, but my friend showed me, and now he has a shiny sunkern!!! It truly does work, but it takes a few days. 1. Have the red gyarados, or any other shiny pokemon with you. 2. Put a flying pokemon in the first position, the pokemon's color who is wished to be changed in the second, three pokemon of your choice in the other positions, and the shiny pokemon at the end of your party. 3. Now, deposit the pokemon of your choice in an empty box, along with the shiny pokemon in the P.C. last. 4. Now, go to the bug catching contest, and enter. Use your flying pokemon in the contest. as soon as your in the contest, exit out, and the clerk will say: " Would you like to finish now?" 5. Say "NO" and you'll be back in the contest. 6. Use your flying pokemon to fly out of the contest, and store whatever pokemon's color who is wished to be shiny in a P.C. box with the pokemon of your choice, and the shiny pokemon you deposited earlier. 7. You should only have your flying pokemon with you. 8. Go back to the contest, save your game by the clerk, and wait until Tuesday, Saturday, or Thursday. 9. When it's one of those day's, talk to the clerk, and complete the contest. 10. Do not exit the contest and finish before the others, because it will break the code. 11. After the contest has been complete, go to your P.C. and withdraw the pokemon's color who wanted to be changed. 12. It will be in shiny version, but it will have the other shiny pokemon's name. Go to the name rater to fix this. NOTE: This does not always work, and only works on pokemon that evolve, such as Larvitar, Pupitar, Spearow, Pidgey, or Pigeotto. Under that entry, there was an account from another person saying it didn't work when she tried it on a Nidoran (unspecified gender.) Also, to Blaziken... TR's Rockin' also had a ton of accounts with messages like that ("You look good at Pokémon, but how's your chem?" comes to mind). (Hi, I'm a lurker who remembers too many things. |D; )

I've never heard about that glitch. o.o
Sounds interesting. So it transfers the name/nickname and the IVs (since in Gen II the shininess is defined by the IVs). What about EVs, moveset and current stats?

No idea. I never tried it myself, either. Oh, hey, it's Saturday. I'll see if it works on Silver. EDIT: Started the test. I have a Pidgeot as my flying type and a Vulpix as the Pokémon I'm trying to change. As the shiny Pokémon, I'm using my (legitimate) Weedle, Sally. My team before starting. Proof Weedle is shiny. Depositing Vulpix in the box with the random Pokémon and shiny. Oddly, even though the gate keeper takes Vulpix away when you go in, upon flying away I had her back. Should I make a new thread, or continue my findings in here on Tuesday?
